The former farmhouse of Elmfield is said to have been built in 1836 and was originally the principal farm in the centre of this Saxon village. The coach houses and stables have long since been sold off as has much of the land providing much needed housing in the community. A warm, friendly welcome awaits you at our victorian house, ideally located, 5 minutes walk from the centre of Okehampton with a choice of pubs and restaurants. Our 7 rooms (4 en-suite) are central heated, have colour tvs, hairdryers and tea/coffee making facilities. We have a quiet guest lounge with a tropical fish tank, where you can relax with a book, or play board games. A fixed iron and ironing board are located in the rear corridor for the use of guests. There is parking available, we have secure storage for cycles and off road hard standing for motorbikes. Due to an influx of soggy cyclists and walkers we have installed a gently heated drying cupboard to dry off shoes and waterproofs. For those who do not wish to eat out every night, there is a microwave in the breakfast room and we are happy to provide warmed plates and cutlery. As well as offering a Full English Breakfast of local dry cured bacon, free range eggs, hand made sausages from the butchers, mushrooms, beans and tomatoes,(included in the price) we also offer a choice of fruit juices, cereals, fruit, yoghurts, tea, coffee, toast and preserves. Vegetarians catered for with mixtures of the above, scrambled, poached or fried eggs and vegetarian sausages. We are within walking distance of the Museum of Dartmoor Life, Okehampton Castle, Simmons Park and Parklands Leisure Centre. Cycle Route 27 the Devon Coast to Coast route passes past our front door and the Granite Way begins only 400 yards away. Cycle hire can be arranged from the youth Hostel, 'adventureokehampton' where you can also book to go on their many outdoor activities while staying in the comfort of our guest house. Dartmoor Railway station is also only 400 yards away with rides to the scenic Meldon Viaduct and reservoir in the summer and home of the very popular 'Polar Express' ride in November and December.

Cob is the vernacular building material of the South West. Although the house may be built from traditional materials it has all the modern amenities and facilities needed to make your stay with us comfortable and relaxing. Merton is the ideal situation to explore Dartmoor, the north Devon and Cornish coast and Devon in general. We have two bed and breakfast guest rooms. One is a large double bedroom with en suite that could also be a family room. There are French doors opening onto a patio that also serves as your own private entrance. Our other guest room is a twin bed with en suite facilities. This also has French doors opening onto a patio with its own private entrance. Both rooms have flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and free wi fi connection in the atrium. All our bed linen and towels are 100% cotton. Breakfast is served in our light and airy atrium with views across the garden and valley. Please let us know on booking if there are any dietary requirements. Little Widefield Farm is the perfect place to come for a break. We are 3.5 miles outside Okehampton, one of the major walking centres in the UK. We are a rural retreat but also an excellent touring base, being within easy reach of the A30. The nearest pub serving food is 1.5 miles away at Folly Gate.We have three well appointed bedrooms for Bed & Breakfast all with an en suite shower room and one of our rooms has a super king bed. A varied menu is offered for breakfast and for the coffee connoisseur we have Nespresso Grands Crus coffee, along with homebaked bread and preserves. The dining room/lounge has a wood burning stove with cosy chairs to relax in. Our hens provide fresh eggs for breakfast which children can collect.Devon and Cornwall's North Coast, The Eden Project, Rosemoor Gardens, Castle Drogo, Exeter, Plymouth and many more attractions are within an hour's drive.
